DVDs and Books For Kids

About

The Story Behind This Blog and Why It Exists.

🎥Around 2008, I worked as a sales assistant in a video rental shop (Xtravision) with outlets across Ireland, where customers could rent movies. Parents would often come to me seeking advice about the kids' movie section, asking whether certain films were suitable or safe for their children to watch.
👾Many of these movies were not inappropriate in an obvious sense, but they sometimes contained sensitive themes, subtle adult references, or brief sexual imagery that parents preferred to be aware of before choosing them for their children.
📹Because I have always been a fan of animated series and children's films myself, I naturally watched a wide range of them. This helped me provide honest and informed guidance to parents who were trying to make careful viewing decisions for their families.
👪Over time, I found myself doing this repeatedly. It became a regular part of my work - helping parents navigate what their children were watching. Eventually, this experience sparked an idea: to create a blog where I could continue offering these kinds of reviews and insights.
👀At first, the blog was simple and unstructured, mostly summarising content with basic advice. But now I am revisiting that work and rewriting each review with more structure and, most importantly, through a biblical lens, highlighting messages, values and reflections that can help families engage with media more thoughtfully.

Note: Since the story began, all Xtravision video rental shops across Ireland have closed.
